BPC-157

A short lab-made piece (15 beads) of a protein found in stomach juice. Almost everything known about it comes from studies in rats. Not approved for people anywhere. Banned in sport.

FDA
Not approved for human use. BPC-157 does not appear on FDA’s live 503A Category 1/2/3 nomination PDF (media/94155, updated May 14, 2026). Separately, FDA’s Significant Safety Risks page lists it under “Bulk drug substances nominated but withdrawn” (content current as of 2026-04-22). Withdrawal of a nomination is not approval for compounding or human use. A July 2026 PCAC vote recommended adding it to the compounding list — advisory only; not a final rule.
WADA
Prohibited in sport (S0, non-approved substances).
Human trials
Nothing on file. USADA: no human trials establishing efficacy.
Lab report
2 of 2 lots verified at the lab. Checked 15 Sep 2026.

How far up the evidence ladder is it?

Every compound starts in a dish and, if it works and it's safe, climbs. Most research peptides never leave the second rung. The ladder tells you how much we actually know — not whether something is "good."

BPC-157 sits on rung 2: many rat studies, mostly from one research group. A human trial program was started and never published results.

"studied" and "studied in people" are different rungs.

What the studies claim

"Claim" means a paper says it. Not that it's proven in people.
  • Protective effects on the gut in rat models [S3, S4]
  • A proposed mechanism involving nitric oxide — not settled [S3]
  • Tendon and ligament effects are widely repeated online. The primary papers are rodent studies we have not yet read and cited, so this page does not repeat the claim — it will appear here when the sources do.

What nobody knows

The honest column. Most sites leave it out.
  • Long-term safety in humans — no published data
  • Immune reactions by route — FDA flagged it, nobody has characterized it
  • Whether the rat findings replicate outside the one lab that produced most of them

Questions people actually search

Is BPC-157 FDA approved?
No. It is not approved for human use by FDA or any other health authority. It does not appear on FDA’s 503A Category 1/2/3 nomination PDF (https://www.fda.gov/media/94155/download, updated May 14, 2026). Separately, FDA’s Significant Safety Risks page lists BPC-157 under “Bulk drug substances nominated but withdrawn” (as of 2026-04-22). Withdrawal ≠ approval. A July 2026 advisory-committee (PCAC) vote recommended adding it to the compounding list; that vote is advisory only — FDA has not issued a final rule changing its status.
Is BPC-157 banned in sports?
Yes. WADA prohibits it under S0 Non-Approved Substances.
Is BPC-157 a "natural" peptide?
It is a synthetic fragment of a naturally occurring gastric protein. "Derived from" a natural protein is not the same as naturally occurring in the form sold.
Are there human studies on BPC-157?
Per USADA, no human clinical trials establishing efficacy for any diagnosis or treatment. Earlier trial programs are referenced but outcomes were not published.
How do I verify a BPC-157 vial?
Lot ID on the vial → matching third-party COA → purity with method → impurity data → origin documentation. If any link in that chain is missing, it isn't documented.
